Removal
The first step in installing a new unit is taking out your older unit. Our team will lay down drop cloths in areas around your home to protect your floors while we will remove equipment. Then we will turn off any utilities that are connected to your air conditioner, including electricity and natural gas.
As we remove your old system, we will pay close attention to the connections and make a note of any that need to be replaced. Many times the existing AC connections can be reused for new systems. But if we have any concerns about how safe and secure those connections are, we want to replace them so that your new air conditioner has the most potential for the years ahead.
Prep Work
Our next step is to prepare your home for the new AC installation. Most air conditioners are in a closet up on a platform. If your existing platform is worn down, we may replace it with fresh wood to ensure that it’s secure. The same goes for your outdoor unit.
We will check to make sure that the foundation is level and high enough off the ground to keep your new unit safe and secure. If you have a lot of debris in your yard, we may recommend putting a small barrier around the outdoor portion of your air conditioner to keep it safe. This is a great way to prevent damage while also couraging optimal efficiency all year long.
Installation
After the first two steps, our team is ready to install your new air conditioner. If you are replacing your previous air conditioner with a newer but similar version, all of the connections should line up. However, if you are switching to a new type of air conditioner, for example switching from a central air conditioner to a ductless unit, our team may have to adjust the connections.
Most installations take around eight hours from start to finish, including all of the removal and prep work. Once the installation is complete, our team will review with you how to operate it. Even though you’ve probably used many air conditioners during your life, each system is unique. We can make recommendations for how to get the most out of your air conditioner and maintain energy efficiency year after year.
