If your air conditioner is already running and you’ve notice that it’s not sending out cool air from the vents, that’s a problem. There are a number of possible reasons for this, and some of them will require that you call us for air conditioning repair in Burbank, CA. We offer emergency repair support when you need it!
Check the thermostat first
You probably thought of this already, but it never hurts to remind people: basic thermostat mistakes can account for many apparent troubles with an AC. Make sure the thermostat is set to “cool” and check on the temperature setting. Somebody may have changed it without you knowing about it.
See if the air filter needs to be changed
Changing out the air filter of an AC is a basic part of maintenance, and it’s something you’ll need to do on your own every 3 to 4 months. If the air filter is clogged, the restriction on airflow into the AC will make it harder for the evaporator coil to remove sufficient heat from the air. If the filter is heavily clogged, put in a new one and see if this solves the problem.
Frozen evaporator coil
The evaporator coil is the spot in your AC where heat is drawn out of the air and cooled. Ice may seem like a natural part of the process—but it isn’t! You don’t want to see ice on any part of your air conditioner. The ice blocks the coil from absorbing heat. The ice could be a result of low refrigerant due to leaks or too much dirt and grime on the coil. Whatever the case, you’ll need HVAC experts to fix it.
Failed compressor motors
The fan in the air conditioner’s air handler may be working just fine, sending out air currents through the ventilation system. But if the compressor in the outdoor unit isn’t working because its capacitors or motor have failed, then there won’t be any cooling at all. Professionals will check on the compressor and see if the problem can be fixed. If the compressor has burnt out, it will need to be replaced—and often this means the AC needs to be replaced.
Broken condenser fan
The outdoor unit contains a condenser fan that’s responsible for drawing hot outdoor air into the unit and across the condenser coil so heat can be released to the outside. If the fan isn’t working, heat can’t be released, the refrigerant won’t cool down, and the AC won’t cool. Call HVAC professionals to fix the fan.
