We’re both an HVAC and electrical contractor, which places us in a special position to understand the electrical workings of air conditioning systems. The majority of malfunctions that can affect an AC are electrical in nature, and you can rely on our team to get to the bottom of your cooling system’s problems and solve them fast.
A common electrical problem in air conditioners is when the AC continues to trip the circuit breaker. There are a number of reasons why this might occur, and we’ll look into the more frequent ones below.
Trouble with the circuit breaker panel
The issue might not be with the air conditioner, but with the electrical panel itself. It could be bad wiring, worn down breakers, or simply a panel that needs an upgrade. Let our electricians handle the necessary work.
Dirty condenser coil
If the outside coil of an air conditioning system is covered with grime, it will result in heat becoming trapped inside the AC. (The condenser coil is where the system exhaust the heat from the compressor.) This will lead to the system overworking and tripping the breaker.
Overheated motor
If one of the motors in the AC overheats, it will melt off the insulation on the wires. This can cause an electrical short, and the sudden voltage surge will cause a circuit breaker to trip.
Grounded compressor
If wires in the compressor come loose, they can lead to electricity leaping down into the ground, passing through the compressor first. This will ignite the oil in the compressor and cause it to burn out. This is a major repair issue that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.
