Last week we addressed an important subject, which is why you should never purchase air conditioning equipment online. But if you were reading that, it was probably because you are thinking about having a new AC installed for you home. Spring is a very good time to have this job done, since it prepares you for the first major heat waves, and it’s also easier to schedule the work with professionals since they aren’t yet dealing with a tide of emergency air conditioning repair calls.
If you feel on the fence about whether replacing your older system is your best choice, here are a few questions to ask:
- How old is the current AC? – The system life for central air conditioners ranges between 10 to 15 years (as long as they receive regular maintenance). If your air conditioner is older than 15 years, replacing it before it starts to decline or suffers an abrupt and inconvenient break down is a wise idea.
- Is there an energy efficient system you’d like for a replacement? – Comfort technology is always advancing, and air conditioners that use newer variable-speed compressors and fans can achieve extremely high energy efficiency ratings, as well as improve indoor comfort. You can also have an excellent solar air conditioner installed, which is one of the best ways to save money.
- How much do you spend annually on repairs? – Paying more than $500 a year in repair work just to keep an AC operating is too high a price. Any single repair that would cost half the price to replace the entire system is also paying too much.
- Are your energy bills rising too steeply? – An air conditioner in its last stages will start to suffer a decline in its energy efficiency, and you’ll notice this in higher utility bills. If the trend doesn’t stop because of repairs and regular maintenance, it’s a more cost-effective plan to replace the AC.
Kilowatt Heating, Air Conditioning and Electrical is now offering $100 off any furnace or air conditioner. Call for more details. We serve Burbank, CA and throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
