Dean Gilford, president of Kilowatt Electric, Heating & Air Conditioning, was born and raised right here in the San Fernando Valley. Besides providing homeowners with A+ Rated, 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed home services over the past 28 years, Dean has been passionate about giving back to our local community. As Dean says, “It’s no accident that I am in the service business. The greatest joy I’ve found in this world is to be of service.”
Below are some of the ways that Dean and Kilowatt give back to the community:
Homelessness
Homelessness and mental illness are issues that Dean cares deeply about. Kilowatt committed 2016 to a food drive for the new San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission Family Shelter in Northridge. Kilowatt and our customers have delivered many bags of food—and will deliver many more this year. You can take part by giving your service tech or installer any shelf-stable food you wish to donate. Kilowatt will deliver it.
One of Dean’s favorite organizations, The Giving Spirit, provides a fun and meaningful way for families to get involved packing homeless survival kits around the holidays. Please check out their website and learn more about their service to the homeless of Los Angeles.
Animals
A few years ago Dean met a blind woman and her seeing-eye dog. He was so moved by their story that Kilowatt made the 18-month commitment to lovingly raise a guide dog puppy named Poppy for Guide Dogs of America. If you follow Kilowatt on Facebook then you know all about her. You too could raise a puppy for a good cause!
Kilowatt’s team is made up of dog lovers. Last year they were installing furnaces at Boxer Rescue and spotted a scarred-up bulldog named Rooney who nobody wanted. When they packed up to leave, Rooney jumped in the truck and joined the team as their company mascot.
U.S. Military
The United States Military recognized Dean with the Patriotic Employer Award. Kilowatt’s headquarters in Sherman Oaks is an official drop-off location for “A Million Thanks,” and we work with “Operation Gratitude.” Over the years Kilowatt has collected more than 10,000 “Thank You” cards and delivered them to active duty soldiers and wounded veterans.
Local Families
Family is everything to us! Perhaps you’ve been delighted by the Little Free Library outside Kilowatt’s building, stocked with books for the middle school up the block. Or maybe your child has been on one of the many Little League teams or local school teams that Kilowatt has helped to sponsor over the years.
